02Price per gram
Each lot is priced from the green coffee we bought for it, so the shelf price tracks what we paid the producer. Prices include Dutch VAT.

03Questions
- Why is a 200 g bag not simply twice the price of a 100 g bag?
- Because only the coffee inside scales with weight. The bag, the printed label, the valve, the packing, the picking and the postage cost us almost the same whether we fill it with 100 g or 200 g. Doubling the coffee therefore adds far less than double the cost, and we pass that difference on rather than keeping it.
- So the 100 g bag is the expensive one per gram?
- Yes, and deliberately so. The 200 g bag is our default — better value per gram and the right size once a coffee has become your everyday cup. The 100 g bag is what you buy when you want to meet a lot without committing to it, and it means the coffee is drunk within a week or two of opening, at its freshest. You are paying a small premium for that freedom.
- Why do two coffees of the same weight cost different amounts?
- Because we pay per lot, not per kilo of generic coffee. A hand-picked, high-altitude lot with a long, monitored fermentation, or one aged in rum barrels with real losses along the way, costs us multiples of a clean washed lot. The price on the shelf follows the price we agreed with the producer, so each lot is priced on its own green cost rather than lumped into a price group.
- Does the roasting cost differ between sizes?
- Barely. We roast in small batches per lot, so the roast cost is carried by the kilo of green, not by the bag it ends up in. What differs between sizes is everything downstream of the roaster — packaging and handling — which is exactly why the larger bag is better value per gram.
- Is the coffee inside the two sizes identical?
- Identical. Same lot, same roast profile, same roast date on the back of the label, whole bean by default. The only thing that changes is how much of it there is.
- Which one should I buy?
- Start with 200 g for the coffee you already know you love. Choose 100 g for anything you have not tasted, and for the seasonal lots that come and go. If you want to taste across a collection, the 3 × 100 g tasting flights are cheaper than three separate bags.
- Why not sell a 1 kg bag to everyone?
- A kilo takes most households two months to drink, and light roasts are at their best in the first weeks after resting. We keep the kilo format for cafés and offices through our wholesale pricing, where it is emptied in days.
The long version
“The specialty price is the one that adds up.”
Where the money actually goes — the commodity market, what Fairtrade does and does not fix, hand-picking on volcanic slopes, and why we print the producer, farm, altitude and process on every bag.
